OVERVIEW

Understanding the way in which we experience colour is a topic that crosses many disciplines. From scientific measurement to subjective phenomena, colour is as diverse an area of study as Artificial Intelligence itself.  Colour permeates all aspects of our daily lives and yet still contains many unknowns. If we can gain a better understanding of how we perceive colour then we can use this information to drive advancement in technology, both in the machine processing of colour information and in simulation of the human visual system. Instead of (re)attempting to define how we experience colour, this symposium asks how we can explore and use what knowledge we already have, particularly across a wide range of disciplines.

TOPICS OF INTEREST

This symposium will offer the chance to explore the usefulness of our knowledge of colour from an interdisciplinary perspective. We encourage contributions from a wide range of fields such as psychology, philosophy, neurology and colour science through to (but by no means limited to) computer graphics and vision, linguistics, art and the Classics. There are no prescribed topics of interest: we welcome proposals from anyone in any discipline whose research is concerned with the perception, understanding and use of colour. It is hoped that engaging a broad variety of disciplines will enable all participants to reflect on insights that may not be obvious or prevalent within their own research. 

The symposium will be organized around talks (the accepted full papers) and an informal discussion. The outcome of this symposium will be a broadened perspective of approaches to colour and a chance to foster new interdisciplinary research connections and collaborations.

Submissions must be full papers and should be sent via EasyChair:

We request that submitted papers are limited to eight pages. Each paper will receive at least two reviews. Selected papers will be published in the general proceedings of the AISB convention, with the proviso that at least ONE author attends the symposium in order to present the paper and participate in general symposium activities.

The architect, sculptor and painter spent most of his life in Mozambique, where he designed more than 500 buildings.

Milan, October 2013 - POLI.design, Consorzio del Politecnico di Milano, in collaboration with the Università degli Studi di Milano, announces the first edition of the Color Design & Technology Master’s, which is set to start in March 2014 and last 12 months.

This master’s is the very first program worldwide devoted to graduate training in the fascinating and complex field of color design and color technology. A new training program conceived to lend value to the most innovative and exciting areas in design and manufacturing, the master’s program aims to train professional “color consultants,” new specialists to meet growing demand for all-around experts in using color as a technical, expressive, and design medium.  Such professionals know how to manage the technological and design complexities of using color, and thus play a central role in creative and industrial processes in numerous application domains: from industrial product design to interior architecture, from communication to fashion and entertainment, and even in designing the urban environment.

Not surprisingly, lots of professionals and companies have soon expressed their interest to this new training product, which will open  with the patronage and sponsorship of the Associazione Italiana Colore (a cultural association that aims to bring together organizations whose scientific, cultural, and professional work deals with color and light), SIOF – the Società Italiana di Ottica e Fotonica and the manufacturer Konica-Minolta. The master has also the patronage and the collaboration of: Lechler, Missoni, Barbieri, Materis Paint, Boero Group, Ceramica Vogue, Barco, Mamma Fotogramma Studio, Federchimica AVISA, Digiworld, Elementi Moda s.r.l., Create, OIKOS, GMG-Color, X-Rite Pantone, Mantero, FlintGroup, Clariant, Fontegrafica, Progetto Iride e Unione Industriali di Como.

Generous support from partners and sponsors has made available tre  50% fee reductions on tuition charged for the program, thanks to the Associazione Italiana Colore and the Società Italiana di Ottica e Fotonica.  In addition, 10 scholarship grants of €4,000 each, offered by the Politecnico di Milano – Dip. Design, will be assigned to the first students admitted and enrolled by January, 30^th 2014. The master’s program has two separate learning phases.  The objective of an initial theoretical and scientific segment is to develop technical skills in measurement, control, digital reproduction, and comparison through disciplines including physics, optics, colorimetry, chemistry, psychology, and perception.  The subsequent practical training phase contextualizes this learning in several applied design disciplines: industrial product design, interior architecture, the design of urban spaces, communication, fashion and entertainment, printing, and video.

The master’s program is targeted at graduates in design, architecture, engineering, computer science, informatics, and physics. The master’s board may also opt to admit candidates whose degrees are in other fields, following evaluation of their transcripts and motivational statements.

PROTOCOLO APCOR/APCEN e EVENTO SCENA/2013

Foi estabelecido um protocolo entre a APCor (Associação Portuguesa da Cor) e a APCEN (Associação Portuguesa de Cenografia) com o objectivo de enriquecimento mútuo em diversas áreas de investigação e de aplicação prática, bem como a futura realização de acções conjuntas que possam promover a transversalidade de conhecimentos entre estas áreas.

As duas associações foram aprovadas nas respectivas assembleias gerais como membros institucionais e desenvolverão no futuro uma estreita colaboração.

O primeiro desafio dentro desta colaboração foi o convite dirigido na pessoa do Presidente da APCEN, Arq. José Manuel Castanheira, no sentido da APCor integrar as actividades do encontro anual SCENA na sua edição SCENALISBOA 2013 (ver mais informação em : http://scenalisboa.blogspot.pt/ ).

ATELIER PRÁTICO DE PINTURA CENOGRÁFICA

Em colaboração com o Centro Cultural Raiano, IPCB/ESART-Escola Superior de Artes Aplicadas e a FBAUL-Faculdade de Belas-Artes de Lisboa

Com Isabel Sabino (Faculdade de Belas Artes de Lisboa), João Pernão (Associação Portuguesa da Cor), Helder Ferreira (Teatro Nacional S.Carlos), José Manuel Castanheira (Faculdade Arquitectura de Lisboa-UTL) e Paulo Oliveira (ScenaLisboa)

Num tempo em que a  Cenografia procura uma nova identidade, confronta-se também com as novas tecnologias. Assim partimos à procura do saber e do fazer de disciplinas tradicionais que formam a raiz da cenografia. Apesar de mergulhados na era digital, muitos ateliers pelo mundo fora preservaram e desenvolveram muitas dessas técnicas. Entre elas, a pintura manual de telões de grande formato, continua em muitos países a prosperar e a gozar de enorme procura. É o caso da empresa Sfumato em Valência. O seu fundador e directorJesus Acevedo, volta de novo aos ateliers do SCENALISBOA. Sob a sua orientação e a partir da pintura de Isabel Sabino que também participa nos trabalhos, (apoiados ainda pelos conhecimentos científicos acerca da cor do Prof. João Pernão), os participantes vão poder ensaiar e produzir telões com a máxima dimensão do palco, sempre num ambiente de verdadeira academia mestre-discípulo.

Viagem para Idanha-a-Nova, instalação em residência e início dos trabalhos

PARTICIPAÇÃO DA APCOR NO 12º CONGRESSO INTERNACIONAL DA AIC (Associação Internacional da Cor)

No passado mês de Julho ocorreu em Newcastle, Reino Unido, a mais importante reunião de especialistas na área do fenómeno cromático. (ver mais informação em : http://aic2013.org/)

Na decorrência do que tem acontecido em anos anteriores a participação portuguesa foi muito significativa, contando com a presença de 9 membros da APCor, incluindo os membros recém-eleitos da sua direcção: a Presidente Margarida Gamito, o Vice-Presidente João Pernão, o Vogal da Direcção Fernando Moreira da Silva e a Secretária da Direcção Cristina Pinheiro que, para além de divulgarem e discutirem os seus trabalhos neste evento, se apresentaram à comunidade científica no âmbito dos seus novos cargos. 

Como acontecimento de destaque para a nossa associação referimos a eleição do sócio fundador e primeira presidente da APCor Maria João Durão para o cargo de membro do Comité Executivo da AIC (2014-2017), realçando que esta é a primeira representação portuguesa nesta estrutura internacional.
